Sunny and 75

Ever since I turned 16 I’ve had a job of some sort. In fact, my first job was hostessing at a local Italian restaurant in my town. It was a good first job. One of my brothers was a server at that same restaurant then, so having a familiar face working alongside me was excellent. It was a lovely family-owned restaurant. With such a comforting atmosphere, with great coworkers as well. I worked there for about a year and a half until I started hostessing at another restaurant down the street. Being human, I needed a bit of change, so I switched up where I was working. This new restaurant was a local pizza and pasta restaurant. Super chill, super laid back, yet still professional of course. I worked with a lot of great girls and boys my age which made it fun. I worked there for a few months until April 2019 rolled around.

I had been taking classes at SoulCycle with my friends, and it was (and still is) my favorite workout of all time. Walking up towards the SoulCycle studio one day they had a chalkboard sign out for display that stated that they were hiring. Man, was I stoked. Later that night I applied online and heard from the manager a day or two later. As I said, I was stoked. That next week I had an in-person interview with the Studio Manager and Assistant Studio Manager. They were super welcoming and greeted me with smiles on their faces. But holy moly I was so nervous during that interview because I wanted my responses to be perfect. I wanted that job so badly. After that interview, I was relieved that it was over, but I also felt super confident in my answers. Later that week I received an email from the Studio Manager (who’s still one of my managers today) offering me a job! I was so excited. April 10, 2019, was my first day on the job. I was so excited. Walking into work that day felt like a fresh start and I was so happy. Little did I know, that job would change me for the better.

On April 10 last month, I celebrated my fourth year working at SoulCycle, but we call it a “Souliversary.” Four whole years working for the same company. It’s been one hell of a ride thus far. From the work-life and atmosphere pre-Covid to moving the entire studio outside in the parking garage during Covid, to moving it all back inside the summer of 2021. Trust me, I’ve seen and done it all when it comes to my job at SoulCycle. But I will always remember what my manager had always reminded us from the start, “Keep it sunny and 75.” She would always say that to us whenever we’d have a tough customer interaction, a busy day of classes, or even just a bad personal day in general. She wanted us to be the bright light to our riders every time they’d walk into our studio, which is how and why I fell in love with SoulCycle, to begin with.

The thing that I’ve loved the most about working at SoulCycle is the people that I work with, and have met along the way. Over the last four years working, I have met some of the people that I hold near and dear to my heart today. Some of my coworkers are my closest and best friends today. (you know who you are) From the amazing instructors who teach the classes, and the wonderful ladies who are our regulars– who are literally my second mom, it’s cheesy but Soul people truly are the best people

I’ve loved working at SoulCycle for the past few years. I’ve traveled all over the country and never miss a chance to take a class at the other studios because the energy that each and every studio gives off is so welcoming and loving. I will always recommend taking a class to anyone who asks me about it. SoulCycle has truly changed me as a person inside and out, and I am so thankful that I sent in that application back in 2019.
